Fashion Week selects ENB winners

PNG Fashion Week returned to Kokopo, East New Britain (ENB), over the weekend with organiser Philma Kelegai noting the potential of the industry.
The PNG Fashion Week’s goal was to partner with the locals, help expand, promote and develop the fashion industry in the New Guinea Islands and to add value to the province and its people.
PNG Fashion Week returned to be part of the “Walk among the masks” fashion show to select the top designer and top model to take part in an upcoming event to be staged in Port Moresby in Oct.
PNG Fashion Week’s manager Deborah Warrillow, on behalf of director Kelegai, said the show had emerged as one of the biggest platforms for the fashion industry in the country and it aimed to partner with provincial events and fashion shows to give them the opportunity to showcase their unique designs on the show’s platform.
She added that PNG Fashion Week was excited about the momentum the event had generated and the direction it was taking.
The “Walk amoung the masks fashion runway” was a success seeing emerging designers, guest designers including East New Britain’s “Lava Girl” Annette Sete showcase their designs, themed on cultural awareness through fashion – indigenous fashion focusing on traditional inspired dresses.
PNG Fashion Week chose 19 year-old Elizabeth Wong, an emerging designer as the winning designer, who will showcase at the national event and 20 year-old Aidah Kaukia, a first-year business management student at Kokopo Business College, as PNG Fashion Week’s winning model.
PNG Fashion Week now has desingers from Alotau (Milne Bay) and Kokopo (ENB), with shows in Wabag (Enga), Lae (Morobe), Goroka (Eastern Highlands) to follow.
