THE Port Moresby Men’s Softball Association says it is thrilled to stage its fast pitch tournament finals at the Bisini Diamonds this weekend.
The tournament, which started last month, has attracted 11 teams, vying for the K3,000 prize money.
Tournament host Consie Bais said this weekend’s matches would determine the overall winner.
“United Brothers are clear frontrunners”, he said.
“They’re closely followed by Pawa Rangers, South Side Jets, Redsox and Antelopes.”
The momentum of the games has picked up after four rounds.
“That’s why six teams are vying for a top-four finish,” Bais said.
“Hornets are one of the team’s that will sneak into the top-four finals if they finish at the top of their pool.
“The final round is crucial as the top-six have to be at their best on Sunday.”
The tournament is a new concept which has been introduced to improve the level of softball in the competition.
Bais said most of the teams had adapted well and embraced the new style of play.
“We have identified areas of improvement for next year,” he said.
“We’d like to see this tournament become an annual event during the offseason.”
