A MAN and his son were killed and their shop looted after a group of men attacked them in a remote area of Western, police say.
South Fly Police commander Superintendent Brian Kombe said the two were shot dead while two security guards were injured.
The incident happened at the Sasereme logging camp near the Southern Highlands border on Tuesday.
Police believed that the group fled to Southern Highlands.
Kombe said they suspected the attack had been planned.
“It started when three men held up the supervisor of a road project along a road built to link Nipa, Southern Highlands, at 9am,” he said.
“The suspects ordered the supervisor to drive them to the shop at the logging camp.
“There was already a mob hanging around the shop. “So when the three arrived in the vehicle, they all stormed the shop.
“Two security guards attempting to escape were shot in the hand and thighs.
“The father and son came out to check and were shot. Both died instantly.” He said the men then ransacked the shop “without hurrying” and loaded the goods on a stolen vehicle.
“They then drove to 95-KMS and abandoned the vehicle there.”
But Kombe said police did not have money to travel to Sasereme.
