THE Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea ended its selection trials for the five-on-five men’s and women’s national team at the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex in Port Moresby on Sunday.
The last two legs of the selection trials were held at Lae’s Eric Woo Basketball Courts (Dec 4-5) and Goroka’s National Sports Institute (Dec 14).
President Karo Lelai told The National that selectors would submit a list of 25-man squads for the national men’s and women’s teams for the federation to endorse in line with its revised selection policy.
Candidates from basketball associations were put through basic physical screening before undergoing skills tests for dribbling, shooting and passing.
Lelai said the trials were in line with the policy which was approved and circulated since last month.
Meanwhile, Ray Bonner would coach the national men’s team with the help of Boyet Daroa as his assistant and federation executive officer Nick Daroa as the team manager.
For the national women’s team, Moi Muri has been appointed as the head coach with Martha Aaron as his assistant and Christabella Amona as the team manager.
