Federations urged to begin Arafura planning

THE Arafura Planning Committee (APC-PNG) is calling on all national sports federations and provincial gold medal teams of the last PNG Games to attend the  monthly meeting for planning and preparation.

The chairman of APC-PNG Thomas Kahai urged all teams to attend another monthly meeting scheduled for this Saturday at PNG Sports Foundation, VIP room.

The PNGSF under its Strategic Plans in focus for Sports For Development is endorsing national federations and provincial sporting teams (gold medal winners) to attend the Arafura Games.

He said PNG Games gold medal winners, either teams or individuals sports could now take part at the Arafura Games as the pathway of promoting the hidden talents from the provinces, however, they must comply with the APC standing requirements with the games preparation.

During the meeting on Saturday, Kahai said they would be updated on the Head of Delegation meeting which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

He said there were 13 sports on offer for PNG’s participation. 

To date, the sports that have submitted their expression of interest are: Team NCD, athletics, basketball, boxing, cricket, table tennis, golf, hockey, indoor volleyball, PNGPF, Football U17 and U19, swimming, weightlifting, SHP women’s basketball.

Kahai stressed that all sports organisations team management must attend the meeting as a requirements from ACP.
