A GROUP of female musicians have collaborated to produce a song appealing to Papua New Guinea’s men and society to rise up against gender-based violence (GBV).
The song titled No more violence was originally written and sung by singer Mereani Masani.
Masani said the aim of the collaboration was to appeal to all men and highlight the need to address violence in all forms against vulnerable members of society, especially women.
“We appeal to men, fathers and brothers to stand up and be the first line of defence for womenfolk in this country,” she said.
The song was launched and produced by Mama Masalai Entertainment last week.
In a statement, the musicians described the collaboration on the song as a dedication to those who had suffered physical abuse and were living under unsafe and difficult circumstances.
The musicians also appealed to the perpetrators of GBV to be compassionate and consider the negative impacts of their actions.
“We appeal to the perpetrators to have compassion to end all violence and stand up against all forms of violence in the country.”
The collaborators on the song were: Mereani Masani, Mirriam Tess Nagu, Anna Tupou-Morove, Didi and Henna Maru Greggy, Errica R Emasi, Sybil Marilyn Taule, Konea Lavaiamat, Carol H Kidu (Jr), Natasha Gayndah Tamanabae, Prissy Mayu, Christian Vaname, Alison Joyce, Danielle and Ellen Morgan, Delma Minei, Fidelish Metta, Vivien and Tess Aisi, Sumitai, Roselyn and Rowena Koisen and Roderick Liggett.
