A FEMALE police officer has been jailed for 10 years for killing her husband, also a police officer.
Justice George Manuhu sentenced Manuela Margo from East New Britain in the National Court in Madang on Tuesday to 10 years in prison with hard labour, minus the six months she had spent in custody.
Margo admitted in court that she stabbed her husband Constable Charles Kukari outside a nightclub in Madang early on Oct 7, 2018.
The court heard that Margo, who was based in Lae, stabbed him in the chest over a domestic matter. Kukari had gone to the nightclub on Saturday night and left early Sunday.
He went to his car to return to the hotel where he was staying.
The court heard that Margo, Kukari’s second wife, was already inside the vehicle when he entered.
Kukari’s relative Andy Gawi said Margo stabbed Kukari on the chest. He died on the way to hospital.
“We were told that we should have brought him 30 minutes earlier,” Gawi said.
Gawi said police later picked Margo from the home of a former provincial administrator.
Kukari had at the time been heading an investigation into the misappropriation of public funds in Madang.
