Fence illegally removed

Letters

I BRING to the attention of the NCDC enforcement unit that some people – who do not behave like human beings – have illegally removed the enclosed fenced area at former Manu Market.
This place is becoming filthy and unhygienic again. The people hanging around there had attracted thieves, drunks and drugs dealers.
That market should be re-fenced and permanently closed.
We the residents in this part of the city would like to live in a peaceful environment, where our women and children will move around freely without any form of harassment.
NCDC should do something about this illegal activity now.
Prevent illegal trading and occupy this area that was once closed off. We live in a city.
A city has rules and regulations for all to follow for the benefit of every citizen, as well as others from different nationalities.
The sale of betel nuts and cigarettes in public places has been outlawed. People who violate these laws have to be charged accordingly. In addition, people should no longer smoke and chew betel nut in PMV buses, private vehicles and in public places and inside shops.
This includes taxi drivers, bus drivers and their crew.
Our neighbouring Pacific Island countries including New Zealand and Australia, citizens abide by the rule of law set by their respective governing authorities. Drivers and passengers do not smoke. They know that it is illegal and nobody can violate that law.
People do not sell items at traffic lights, bus stops and shop fronts.
As a result of observing the rule of law, their citizens enjoy many benefits such as unpolluted air, healthy, clean and safe environment.
They have respect for one another and state properties. City laws must be enforced at all times so those who violate these laws will learn.
