IT was an eye-opener for Namatanai Technical Vocational Centre students in New Ireland when they successfully completed a two-day excursion in East New Britain last week.

About 20 first-year students and four teachers were in ENB last Thursday and Friday visiting several organisations and industries as an extension and training excursion.

A senior teacher looking after the business and agriculture department at NTVC, Obert Elias said the students visited mainly resorts, hotels and agriculture institutes.

These were Vunamami Farmers Training Centre, Gazelle International Hotel, Queen Emma Lodge, Rapopo resort, The Organisation for Industrial Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA), University of Natural Resources and Environment and National Agriculture Research Institute.

He said the purpose of the excursion was for the students to practically see some activity businesses operating using modern management styles and technologies in their set-ups.

Elias said they visited those organisations, business firms and agriculture institutes because they relate to their foundation subject areas.

“Our students clearly saw the benefits of these industries on the livelihood of the people during the visit,” he said.

Elias said the field trip was funded by the school as the school did not want to spend the remaining funds from the school budget under training on infrastructure.
