Papua New Guinea Football Association president David Chung signed an agreement with Oil Search to use the National Football Stadium (NFS) for the Federation of the International Football Associations (Fifa) Under-20 Women’s World Cup next month.
The agreement was signed yesterday at the NFS.
During the signing, Chung, who is also a Fifa vice-president, said he was delighted to see Oil Search managing director and Lloyd Robson Oval Trustee chairman Peter Botten releasing the stadium to PNGFA.
“Thank you Botten and Oil Search for coming on board to assist us with the use of the stadium,” Chung said.
“On behalf of PNG Football Association and the local organising committee, I thank you for your generosity.”
He said NFS would not only host the group rounds but also the quarterfinals and final of the World Cup.
“This reflects Oil Search’s corporate responsibility and contribution to the country, not only in revenue through their resources, but also in sharing infrastructure benefits with the community,” he said.
Botten said it was their pleasure to support the Fifa tournament as it was a major event for PNG.
“I would like to thank Chung and his team for working hard to make this event a success in our country,” Botten said.  “We are proud to support the Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup as it will put PNG on the world map in terms of business.”
He also acknowledged the National Government for their effort into bringing the global event to the country.
Meanwhile, the Women’s World Cup tickets will be out by next Tuesday.
