A FIGHT erupted over the weekend between two groups of settlers in Pomio, East New Britain.
Settlers from Warangoi Floodway and Butam block in the Sinivit local level government (LLG) area clashed over what police say was ongoing harassment related to land issues and social problems.
Police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali said the fight erupted on Saturday.
He said the incident forced a section of the Sikut-Warangoi road to be blocked off.
Chief Insp Tabali said swift action from the Kokopo police response unit and Mobile Squad 17 members on Sunday morning resulted in the removal of the road block and normalcy restored.
In another incident, a fight took place between Matalau settlers and Sonoma settlers at Gelagela over a bingo competition on Saturday.
Chief Insp Tabali said both incidents were brought under control by police.
Tabali said the suspects involved in the two fights had been arrested and detained at the Kokopo Police Station with charges to be laid after investigations were completed.
