Fight over woman puts man in jail

A man who stabbed two men and killed one of them was sentenced to six years imprisonment for murder yesterday.
Judge Panuel Mogish sentenced Edward Kiko in the District Court in Bomana, Port Moresby.
Justice Mogish deducted two years and nine months for time served in custody and for co-operating with police.
Kiko, from Kerea village in Central, will serve three years and three months at Bomana.
The crime was committed in Oct 2016.
Trouble started when Kiko accused a man by the name of Vabubu Mesuru of having an affair with his wife. The matter was taken to the village court to allow both parties to settle the matter peacefully.
However, on Oct 2, 2016, between 1am and 2am, Kiko was drinking with his in-laws at Kerea village when he saw Mesuru.
He confronted him and they got into an argument but were separated by a man called Magege John Ivis.
The court heard that later that day, Mesuru returned to where Kiko and Ivis were drinking to buy cigarettes.
He and Kiko had a fist fight and Kiko stabbed Mesuru in the abdomen with a kitchen knife.When Kiko tried to run away. Ivis tried to stop him from escaping and Kiko stabbed him too.
Both wounded men were rushed to hospital but Ivisi died on the way.
