STUDENTS of the University of Papua New Guinea have been told to “dream without boundaries” and become “servants of the people”.
Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka addressed students during a visit to the main campus on Friday, saying he was honoured to visit one of the renowned universities in the Pacific.
“As you continue your study to achieve your dreams, please don’t forget to become servants of your people,” he said.
“Those of us on this platform today are serving our people. You will serve your people better because you have not only learned in universities but also from us.
“Go out there and do better than us. Don’t lose your dreams. Dream your dreams without boundaries.”
Plans are also in place for more collaboration between the universities in Fiji and UPNG.
Rabuka encouraged the students to continue to strive for excellence.
“You have a great nation and you are greatly led,” he further remarked.
“This nation is full of promises, the people outside of this university are full of hope and when you come out from the halls of this university, you will write your names in the history of this nation.
“You have been trained well to achieve land.”
Rabuka revealed that Fiji will soon invite members of the PNG Defence Force for secondment to the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).
“I have authorised the minister for home affairs and immigration to invite the Ministry of Defence of PNG to send servicemen and women on secondment to the RFMF to participate in peacekeeping duties around the world,” he said.
