NOUMEA: The Fiji Basketball team battles for possession against Samoa in their first pool game in Noumea on Monday night.
Johnny Seruvatu played a stunning role for Team Fiji basketball as they humiliated Samoa 80-61 in their opening pool match at Boulari complex on Monday night.
Skipper Leonard Whippy and tall man Frank Saketa played huge roles for the side as they were challenged by a strong Samoan team.
Whippy, Seruvatu and Saketa were instrumental in the huge win.
However, coach Paul Whippy signalled room for improvement prior to their next game today.
“As expected we know Samoa will be gunning for us, I’m happy the boys played a good game despite the fact that this is our first game together for this season. It was a good performance from the side.
“The reserve players were of great impact in lifting the game to another level,” Whippy said.
He said the players that made their debut at the games were impressive.
“The impact players were a relief to us. They went in and lifted the game from where the first five started off.”
“To win is a good way to start our campaign and I told the boys that the result of this game will set the platform for us in the remaining games,” Paul added.
