THE finals format for the Women’s National Soccer League is expected to be announced next week along with the eight teams that qualified for the quarterfinals, an official says.
The Northern Conference completed its regular-season matches on Sunday while the Southern leg of the competition will end tomorrow in Port Moresby.
Papua New Guinea Football Association competition coordinator Leo Jakanduo told The National that the remaining matches for the Highlands Conference, which were cancelled last week, would be played this weekend.
The New Guinea Islands (NGI)Conference in Bougainville will also wrap up its matches on Saturday to determine the top-two teams in the conference that will advance to the playoffs.
“The Northern Conference has completed its round 10 while the Southern, NGI and Highlands Conferences will wrap up the normal round this week,” Jakanduo said.
“By next week, we should announce the eight teams that qualify for the quarterfinals.”
The Highlands Conference was supposed to complete their matches last weekend, however, the fixtures were called off following a civil unrest in Mt Hagen.
Northern Conference champions Bara and runners-up Poro have secured their spots in the playoff.
For the Port Moresby teams, Hekari United and National Capital District are in the clear from the other teams, given the points gap on the ladder.
