AMBUMANGRE Micro-Credit Scheme (AMCS) in Kundiawa, Chimbu, graduated 15 trainers in financial literacy education last Friday.

The training under the Microfinance Expansion Project (MEP) was facilitated by the Bank of Papua New Guinea and conducted by AMCS for bulk of population of the province.

The graduates would then conduct financial trainings in different parts of Chimbu to disseminate information on proper business management practices to enhance financial capabilities of ordinary people.

AMCS chairperson Francisca Moivo said they trained more than 10,000 people last year and hoped to train another 10,000 people in financial literacy this year.

“We so far had trained 4, 500 people already this year, we will then move on to train another 5, 000 people in the remaining months of this year with the help of the trainers who are passing out today (last Friday),” Moivo said.

She said they have 45 trainers trained so far, 30 of them passed out last year and another 15 last Friday.

Provincial deputy governor James Kendeyagl expressed satisfaction at AMCS efforts, BPNG and partners to undertake the project in Chimbu to educate local people in financial literacy.

He said it was a good training to teach people about budgeting, savings and spending.

A participant, Mathew Niglkul said they value the training they received and promised that skills learnt would be fully implemented to improve business activities.

He said many people who received the training have experienced changes in their lives and have improved in making financial decisions.
