Find new parking space for PMVs

Letters

WEWAK police have been penalising PMV buses for parking on roads.
If a bus is parked to collect passengers, they are fined K200 on the spot.
PMV owners are losing business because of these unnecessary fines.
There is no proper awareness and allocation of sites where PMV buses coming into Wewak town could park.
The PMV operators are struggling to make money with the high cost of fuel and spare parts while the police have now developed a habit of confiscating driving licenses and permits.
I appeal to the Police Commissioner David Manning to instruct his East Sepik police commander to monitor the behaviour of Wewak traffic police.
Unnecessary fines are not helping the already affected economy caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Fines exceeding K100 for a bus every day is affecting bus operators even though they have PMV permits, Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd registration, safety sticker requirements and good tyres.
The charges of unexplained traffic violations keep coming.
PMV buses are not allowed to drive through the middle of town road; this will attract a penalty of K200.
When the police or others in authority decide to stop parking of PMVs in a certain area, there has to be an alternate designated area assigned to cater for the needs of PMV buses and passengers.
Wewak traffic police should come up with solutions to help PMV operators.
