Fine saves man from jail time

A MAN who assaulted his wife over the weekend escaped a three- month jail term when he paid his court fine of K300.
Alphonse Kombati, 28, from Mul Baiyer in Western Highlands pleaded guilty for assaulting his wife (Priscilla) before Lae District Court Magistrate Tera Dawai.
Kombati told the court that he had an argument with his wife and slapped her on her cheek.
He told the court that he had four children with the victim (wife) and asked the court to be lenient in its sentencing.
His apology to court as a first-time offender was accepted by the court.
Magistrate Dawai told Kombati that the law on violence against women and children was getting tougher and as man, he must be careful about his actions.
