MT Hagen Dart Association has received K2,000 from a major sponsor in the province.
Mondo Merchants, which also supports other games like golf, presented K2,000 to the association under the company’s net entertainment for sports development programme.
Mondo Merchants manager Peter Neri said darts was one of the sports that could be played by all family members unlike other sports like rugby league, soccer and basketball.
Neri said Mondo allowed the association to use its club to play darts every Wednesday night when it looked for a venue to promote the sport. He said the company would continue to sponsor the association for the national championship in Mt Hagen next year.
Association president Kleffrey Weura said the company had come in to help at a time when the association needed to pay for trophies and other prizes for the competition.
Weura said prices of goods and services were increasing and the donation was really welcome.
The two teams playing in the grand final on Sunday are Mondo Merchants against Oil Min.
Mapai Transport will play Highlands Tyres for the third place.
