Firm commissions new fuel tanks

ISLANDS Petroleum last week commissioned a new five-million liter tank in Lae, with the first fuel delivery also made last week, says chief executive officer Nathan Bluett.
Bluett said the company was committed to increasing its capacity to serve the PNG market.
“Islands Petroleum commissioned a new fuel tank in Lae to increase our storage capacity.
“This is another key project managed and delivered by our PNG engineering team.
“In October 2023, our team commissioned a new five-liter tank in our Rabaul terminal,” he said.
Bluett said the new Lae tank received diesel last week when an ExxonMobil tanker delivered fuel to Lae.

“Islands Petroleum is working with our supplier to the increase the frequency of fuel shipments into PNG to better manage increased demand in the country,” he said.
“Islands Petroleum supplies fuel and Mobil lubricants throughout the country, having the second largest reach of any supplier.
We serve 10 locations, including the major ports in NGI, Southern, Lae, Madang and Mt Hagen.”
Meanwhile, the Mineral Resources Development Company and ExxonMobil are still discussing an additional supplier of jet fuel to the country.
Puma Energy is the only supplier of jet A1 (aviation fuel).
It decided last week to reduce the size of its operations and fuel supply proportionate to the capacity of its remaining banking channels.
