THE 2018 earthquake caused much damage in many villages and health centres in Hela as well as the neighbouring areas in the Highlands.
ExxonMobil PNG Ltd (EMPNG) has been supporting earthquake-affected communities to repair and improve health facilities to ensure the communities have access to healthcare services.
Local contractors in Hela were given a contract to build a three-bedroom staff house fitted with a 1.5 kilo volts solar panel, renovate an old staff house as well as the Beneria Health Centre at a cost of more than K300,000.
The sub health centre is managed by the Evangelical Church of PNG (ECPNG) with support from the Hela Provincial Health Authority.
The facility provides health care services such as immunisation, inpatient and outpatient care, HIV/AIDS testing and counselling, antenatal and postnatal support and community health outreach services to a population of about 8,500.
Hides Gas Conditioning Plant (HGCP) senior field superintendent Murray Johnson said partnerships were important to EMPNG to help communities to provide services to people.
