A LOCALLY-owned engineering company in East New Britain has expanded its business into the shipping industry.
Shunammite Engineering Ltd launched its new barge mv Mercy on Friday at the Takubar beach front in Kokopo.
Managing director Ephraim Naso said they wanted to develop the economy of East New Britain through the public private partnership (PPP) concept.
“We opted to provide an alternative business option for local entrepreneurs, national and international investors, so that their investment aspirations are realised through strong and prudent partnership,” Naso said.
“Given our notation licence to service the coastal PNG waters, we will strive to forge a business culture that is safe, reputable and value-adding for all.”
They hope to provide a service that is reliable and conducive by building business relationships to a point of sustainability.
He urged the business community to support them in their venture.
A chaplain will be on board the barge to provide spiritual enhancement and growth to the crew and negotiate safety and goodwill so safety standards and biblical principles of God are not compromised.
The barge will service coastal waters of ENB, West New Britain and New Ireland.
