NINE cultural shows to promote the use of food crops in tourism and to have better law and order in the country will be held this year.
Eco-Tourism Consultancy Services, a private firm which advocates for SME and good governance, said the shows would be held in partnership with women’s councils.
Chief executive officer Francis Steven said the programme would start in March in Nawaeb, Morobe.
“We will be partnering with organising bodies, especially mothers in the villages who will be represented by the PNG Council of Women,” he said.
“They are currently in Port Moresby.
“We will have nine cultural shows called the SME and Ecotourism Cultural Festival. The events will take place in Morobe, Central, NCD, East Sepik and Madang.”
Steven said the tourism industry would alleviate poverty.
“We will be promoting and marketing the little people and their products.”
Morobe will host four of the cultural events, Madang with two and the other provinces will host one each.
PNG tourism has been on the rise with 95,000 travellers and K690 million in spending but lags behind other Pacific Island nations like Fiji which netted K3 billion in 2018 alone, he said.
