PREPARATIONS are underway  for the development of  a new sub-centre  at Bopire in New Ireland.

Last week, BSP Incorporated, a Philippines company that is proposing to build the new township signed a memorandum of understanding with the New Ireland provincial administration to take the first steps towards realisation of the township.

The project proposes a new airstrip and terminal, a general hospital – inclusive  of  doctors’  residence  and staff  dormitory – a town  plaza, a possible  fishing  wharf  and  provision  of  the  necessary  basic  roads, drainage system and utilities.

The relocation of Namatanai Airport allows the previous airstrip to be developed for the New Namatanai Technical College.

BSP Inc will work on an overall plan.
