MOTOR Vehicle Insurance Ltd (MVIL) has aimed to support and develop women in rugby league and any sporting endeavours they choose.
Chairman of MVIL Bonny Igime said they were mindful of the fact that women could also be leaders whether it was in sport or otherwise, thus believing in gender balance and equal participation.
Igime said this while presenting a K20,000 sponsorship package to the Women In League (WIL), an organisation set up to support the development of women’s rugby league in the country.
He said MVIL believed in women in providing avenues and support so that they excelled in their sporting endeavours.
“It is with great pleasure that we at MVIL support WIL and look forward to a greater partnership with all womenfolk’s,” Igime said.
Vice-Minister for Public Enterprises Johnson Tuke said MVIL was a state owned company and it had a community obligation to be fulfilled for the country.
He said MVIL’s support to Women In League was an example of the partnership approach MVIL intends to embark on in its three year plan (2013 – 2015).
“Through such partnership the recipient should promote the core business and key role of MVIL in the sporting community.
“As Vice-Minister responsible for SOEs I would like to state that SOEs will support sports and other social activities selectively especially in areas that will have a positive impact at the community and national level,” Tuke said.
WIL founder and director Susan Shearson thanked the government through MVIL for their kind gesture in supporting women through their direct involvement with rugby league.
