NIPA-Kutubu in Southern Highlands is to see two major projects in the district funded by Oil Search Ltd (OSL) under its tax credit scheme.
Four police houses will be built and the Nipa Police Station will be renovated at a cost of K5.5 million besides two staff houses and three clinical buildings at Kuima health centre costing K4 million.
Local MP and deputy speaker Jeffery Komal said the delivery of the project was a “Christmas gift” as no major project was seen in the area under the scheme.
“Out of five projects, two have been approved and finally came to fruition while the other three projects are yet to be approved,” Komal said.
“In 2013, the five projects were captured in the five-year district development plan, in 2014 it was launched by former Prime Minister Peter O’Neill at Nipa Station.
“Finally the two projects were approved this year during the festive period.
“The five projects are Nipa town sealing, Nipa Secondary School infrastructure maintenance, Nembi Plateau High School infrastructure, Nipa Police Station staff houses and Nipa police station infrastructure upgrade.”
