Firms should take lead in plastic ban

Letters

IT IS interesting to note Chey Scovell and the PNG Manufacturers Council’s insinuation position on the banning of plastic bags.
I believe it is a global consensus that plastic bags and plastic products are a major cause of pollution.
On that basis, why does the PNG business community find it necessary to wait for the State or local councils to make the decision?
The private sector needs to wake up and start using common sense and take proactive measures without the State intervention.
Private sector operators worldwide have taken the initiative to phase out plastics without State intervention.
PNG has a huge potential to supply natural materials and environmentally clean material to manufacturers to make enviro carry bags and packaging products.
Why can’t the PNG Chamber of manufactures get proactive and start making the changes themselves?

  • The most direct way to deal with plastic related natural disasters is for all shoppers to carry your OWN PNG BILUMS each and every time you go shopping.
