MORE infrastructure developments are expected in Central’s Abau following a deal between the Central Government and National Fisheries Authority (NFA).
On Wednesday, NFA’s managing director Justin Ilakini handed over 10 new houses at the Kupiano station to local MP Sir Puka Temu.
The Kupiano Public Servants Accommodation Development includes four houses for Fisheries, the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, Health and Education Departments at a cost of K6.3 million.
The accommodation project is a testimony of NFA’s collaboration with the province and district through an understanding that both parties have executed.
According to Ilakini, the authority is using a ‘multi sectoral approach’ to bring services to people outside of cities and towns.
Kupiano is the most strategic location that connects Milne Bay and Central provinces.
It serves as the entry and exit point for movement of fisheries and other commodities and is a strategic point in NFA’s flagship coastal fisheries hub development programme.
Besides the accommodation project for public servants, NFA is also working on a market and fisheries projects at Kupiano.
