A senior National Fisheries Authority officer and a five –year –old child died when their vehicle overturned in West Sepik last week, says provincial police commander Moses Ibsagi.
Seven other passengers with serious injuries are now at the Vanimo General Hospital.
Ibsagi said the NFA officer went to Imonda last Sunday to inspect an inland fishing project.
“The passengers decided to hitch a ride with him to return back to Vanimo,” he said. Along the way, the vehicle overturned and rolled four times near a place called White Stone. All the passengers were thrown out of the vehicle, including the driver, resulting in his and the child’s death. The rest were taken to hospital. Police could not investigate the accident because the driver was dead.
