Fishery workers get training

Business

MORE than 30 people are attending a workshop on social responsibility and working conditions on board fishing vessels in Lae this week.
The training is conducted by the Fishing Industry Association (FIA PNG) in collaboration with consultancy organisation Seafoodmatter.
The representatives are from the National Fisheries Authority, FIA PNG and fishing companies in Wewak, Madang, and Lae.
The training focused on the labour schemes on the conditions on board and to assess suppliers (fishing vessels) on possible human rights abuses in the value chain.
It provided attendees with the necessary tools available on the market to ensure that products from fishing are captured under legal, safe, free and ethical conditions.
The training is based on the ISO 19011:2018 standard and constitutes a guide for the audit management system and its application in which it evaluates social and work aspects on board.
The training and workshop were on June 21 and 22 in Lae.
