Five new cases in NCD, WHP

FIVE new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the National Capital District (NCD) and Western Highlands over the weekend, bringing the total number of cases to 725, according to the National Control Centre for the virus.
On Saturday, a 57-year-old woman at the Pacific International Hospital (PIH) tested positive for the Covid-19.
At the time of testing, she was experiencing a fever and headache.
NCD recorded a total of 361 positive cases.
The four cases recorded on Sunday in Western Highlands brought the number up to five in the province and were all males, with youngest seven years old and others in the 20s and 30s.
One case was reported in Hagen Central, one in Mul-Baiyer and two cases reported in Dei.
At the time of testing, the seven-year-old and a 30-year-old presented symptoms of cough, diarrhoea, shortness of breath, headaches and muscle aches.
A 22-year-old did not show symptoms of the virus at the time when swab samples were taken but results returned positive.
To date, 36,674 people been tested for the Covid-19, 601 people have recovered, 116 active cases are in isolation and 439 samples are pending at the laboratories.
There have been eight Covid-19 deaths so far.
National pandemic response controller David Manning called on all the citizens to adhere to the new normal measures which included:

  • Wearing a face mask or face covering in all public places;
  • Cleaning hands often by washing with soap and water or using an alcohol-based sanitiser;
  • Keeping a physical distance of 1.5-metres between yourself and others;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth;
  • Greeting others with a smile, a nod or a simple “hello”, no handshakes, no fist bumps or high fives;
  • Coughing and sneezing in your bent elbow and not your hands;
  • Limiting social gathering and time spent in crowded places; and,
  • Cleaning surfaces.
