FIVE officers from the PNG Defence Force recruitment office have been suspended following investigations into its recruitment process.
Commander Maj-Gen Gilbert Toropo said he issued the instructions based on the investigation report.
“The chief of staff has administered the officers who are being suspended through our chain of command,” he told The National.
“All five officers are from the recruitment office.”
Maj-Gen Toropo also said that recruits would be removed based on the findings of the investigating officer through the commanding officer at the Goldie Training Depot.
“The investigation has been completed, however, we are now verifying the grade 12 certificates with the Measurement Unit of the Education Department to ascertain their merit.
“All recruits who are found to have been compromised will be removed as well.”
Maj-Gen Toropo ordered an investigation into the recruitment of trainees in late February after allegations of corruption in the recruitment process saw 320 taken in for training at Goldie Barracks.
In March the recruitment office was closed as internal investigations into its recruiting process was carried out.

  • It’s about time these recruitment officers are desciplined and further investigation conducted to validate the academic credentials of each recruit to dismiss those
    That have cheated.

  • the failures will ALWAYS fail the government in all their recruitment drives thru all the government departments, not only in POLICE/ARMY OR CIS…..in all the government departments you will see the failures either wasting their time chewing betelnut/smoking or playing pokies / horse race and so on….on tax payers monies.

  • To avoid this to happen again, PNGDF recruitment must make selections straight from Grade 12. A section on the School Leavers form must be made available for students to put in as their choice of preferences to join PNGDF as well as Recruitment for RCPNGC
