THE police Internal Investigation Unit (IIU) has arrested five Madang-based policemen in connection with the murder of a man on Aug 26.
The suspects were all charged with one count of murder and one count of abuse of office.
Officer in charge of the IIU Acting Supt Charles Winuan said the five had gone to Balifum Mark’s house about 1am after parking two vehicles a few metres away.
Winuan said the suspects found Mark and his friends consuming homebrew and listening to music.
“Mark and his friends swore at the suspects and told them to go away without realising they were policemen,” he said.
“When a suspect flashed a torch at Balifun’s face, he realised who they were and surrendered. But Mark was shot and his friends were ordered to carry him out to a vehicle.
“The suspects then drove around Madang town until 3am and they brought Mark to Modilon Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” he added.
The suspects are being detained in the Jomba police lock-up awaiting court hearing.

  • More rotten apples in the constabulary but it’s good to see that they are being dealt with and hopefully they will be dismissed from the force. Criminals bagarapim Madang stap na ol tu kamap criminals lo side. Mi faul ya.
