Five pursuing class three certification at Fiji Maritime Academy

FIVE Papua New Guineans have left for Fiji to study at the Fiji Maritime Academy and qualify as Class Three officers under the Pacific Towing Ltd cadetship programme.
The programme focuses on training deck officers and marine engineers.
The five who joined the company in 2019 are Jack Mingi, McKenzie Danwer, Hannah Panta, Calvin Gimlolo and Henry Chepon.
The first three are studying to be deck officers and latter two are studying marine engineering.
Gimlolo said they attended the Madang Maritime College in 2021 and spent six months on deck work and a year on engineering.
“We went aboard vessels to acquire sea time to be eligible to return to school to study as officers on board the Consort vessels as well as tug boats,” Gimlolo said.
He said they accumulated more than 20 months of sea time rnabling them to return to school.
Gimlolo said they were the second batch of cadets to be sent to Fiji by Pactow. They will spend a year at the Fiji Maritime Academy in Suva. He thanked the company for giving them the opportunity.
