FLAMES Green claimed the title of a Kutubu Security Services-sponsored in-house basketball tournament at the Hohola Basketball Courts in Port Moresby on Saturday.
In preparation for squad selection for the upcoming Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball League, the three-day tournament ended its round-robin matches on Thursday with four teams advancing to Saturday’s finals.
With the help of national representative Purari Muri in the final, Green beat Red 62-43 and scooped the K1,000 prize money and winners’ trophy.
Team Red were presented with K800, Team Grey bagged K600 and Team Yellow pocketed K300.
Junior matches were played as curtain raisers to the final.
Tournament director Jerry Pango said compared with the 2019 tournament, the 2020-2021 edition was far more impressive.
“The performances from this tournament were quite impressive when we started on Wednesday,” he said. “The games were great.
“We identified a lot of talents in the Under-13 and youth divisions.”
Pango thanked the club manager and sponsor Vonnie Kapi Natto and her husband John Kapi Natto for sponsoring the prize monies, trophy, jersey sets and other items for the tournament.
Team manager Vonnie Kapi Natto said following the tournament, the team would be looking at selecting players for this season’s PMBL competition.
Kapi Natto said she was impressed with most of the new youths that took part in the tournament.
