PROPOSED flights to Jayapura in Indonesia from Mt Hagen are still being negotiated by the PNG Air management and stakeholders from both countries.
PNG Air chief commercial officer Paul Abbot said the flight would provide the opportunity for more convenient international travel through Jayapura.
“For international services, we are still working with the Indonesia government on the Mt Hagen-to-Jayapura services,” Abbot said.
“I understand that there was a meeting in Jakarta to discuss the progress on that.
“And we are hoping that early in the New Year, we can get that up and running as well so that we can offer three-times-a-week services between Mt Hagen and Jayapura.
“Kagamuga has a fantastic international airport facility and a beautiful terminal.
“And we of course would like to use those facilities and get these services up and running as soon as we can. Those who travel to Jayapura can also go on to other parts of Indonesia as well other parts of the world.
“It gives people, particularly in the Highlands region, a good opportunity for international travel without having to come down to Port Moresby and going through Cairns and Brisbane.”
