The PNG Floriculture Association is hosting a national floriculture show in Port Moresby for florists and flower enthusiasts to showcase the distinctive and diverse flowers and plants found and grown around Papua New Guinea.
Association president Thoa Willie said the flower show had been an annual event since 2009.
“From 2009-2017 the flower show was organised and staged under the PNG Cut Flower Association,” Willie said.
She said in 2018 a new association was registered by members of the previous association with the new name – PNG Floriculture Association.
“Under the new association, the 2018 floriculture show was staged,” WIllie said.
The association is the organiser for this year’s event held at Laguna Hotel.
The week-long event, which started on Monday with participants coming from all over PNG, will coincide with Mother’s Day on Sunday.
The flower show ends on Sunday.
Willie said the aim of the floriculture show was to:

  •  Promote the unique and diverse flowers and plants grown in Papua New Guinea;
  •  create a forum for women and men involved in the floriculture industry around Papua New Guinea to come and showcase flowers and plants;
  •  create a temporary market place for participants to sell their flowers and plants; and,
  •  Provide an opportunity for friendship and networking.
    “Don’t just grow flowers, buy flowers or admire them, make a lasting friendship with flowers,” Willie said.
