POLICE are expected to introduce a new recruitment process to improve the quality of intakes.
Police Commissioner Gari Baki told The National that there was concern about the quality of officers in the force.
“We are paying particular attention to the recruitment process as it will undergo review,” he said.
“I said that when I suspended the recruitment process when there was some foul play in the way we did our selection.”
He said that issue had been completed and he was now looking for options to improve the recruitment process. “I have also asked the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to assist us in developing an appropriate recruitment process that we will put in place for any other future selection process for the RPNGC.”
Baki said they were also considering a move into decentralising training as well as selecting people focusing on the number that went in for the recruitment.
He said applications would be screened and excluded if they did not meet the required standard.
Bomana Police College commandant Peter Philip said he would start using the review process with the next batch of 300 intakes.
