FLEXIBLE, open and distance education (Fode) is giving opportunities for students to continue learning in spite of disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, an official says.
The Fode office launched its home learning Covid-19 relief kit yesterday to 30 students in Port Moresby.
The kits included course books, materials and a tablet.
Education emergency recovery response plan chairperson Annmarrie Kona said the programme was funded by the Education Department through the global education partnership with the Australian High Commission and other donor partners.
“With the support from two donors from the Global Education Partnership and the Australian High Commission, K30 million was to support the response and more than K500 million has been used to launch this programme,” she said.
Kona said the kits would help students giving them access to education and improve quality.
She said students in PNG had been affected by the pandemic during the past two lockdowns.
Kona said Fode was an important education pathway supporting youths and adults through education that they would not have been in a position to get.
