POLICE and defence force soldiers in the Highlands are appealing to Keltiga leaders in Mt Hagen to return a military-issued gun that went missing early this year during an accident along the Highlands Highway.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Highlands Eastern End Joseph Tondop made the call to leaders and the public at Keltiga after the accident that had resulted in the death of a soldier.
He said if the gun was not forthcoming, police would be forced to go and get it.
ACP Tondop said they were using intelligence and gathering information and believed that the gun was taken to Baiyer.
He said this was the final call.
“We have links to it and it would be better to surrender it to us or we can come to take it off from you,” he said. “We have been making appeals but all have fallen on deaf ears and I believe that this will not solve the problem.”
