Forecast: Strong winds to continue throughout week

STRONG wind surges are expected to continue throughout the week due to the severe Tropical Cyclone Uesi just off the coast of Brisbane, according to the National Weather Service.
Director Jimmy Gomoga has urged people along the coastal areas of Central, Milne Bay and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville to listen to weather warnings.
“The country will only be experiencing the indirect impacts of category three Tropical Cyclone Uesi which is travelling at 138km per hour.”
Gomoga said the category three tropical cyclone would cause strong wind surges along the coastlines.
“Small boats and fishermen should avoid going out to open sea at this time because wind surges of 33 to 47 knots are expected to continue throughout the week, causing very rough and high seas.”
He said the country right across would experience these strong wind surges with showers and rain.
The Highlands and the New Guinea Islands region would experience heavier rainfalls and flooding in some areas.
Gomoga said severe thunderstorms and rain were also expected in the Southern parts of the country while the Momase region would experience rain.
Meanwhile, Gomoga said there would not be any direct impact to PNG caused by Tropical Cyclone Uesi but weather warnings needed to be heeded.
