Foreigners in the way

Letters

WITH all due respect to our leaders of the past who held dual citizenships, contested the national elections and helped take this country forward to where it is now, it is time we put a stop to all foreigners with dual citizenships contesting elections in Papua New Guinea. The situation in the early days were completely different. Now we cannot continue to allow foreigners with vested interests to run this country.
The right to be a member of parliament in PNG must be reserved exclusively for citizens by the true meaning of the law.
The national government should look at amending the Constitution and other relevant laws on provincial and national government elections to bar the participation of people who hold two passports.
We cannot continue to allow foreigners who come to do business and work to become dual citizens then take away our rights.
They are taking advantage of our financial and logistical weaknesses, disadvantages and incapabilities to gain the upper hand.
Wake up PNG and stop people with vested interests from taking away opportunities intended for the original people of Papua New Guinea.
