FORMER head bishop Giegere Wenge’s claim on the Evangelical Lutheran Church leadership is shameful to the millions of Lutheran followers, including the Gutnius Luthern Church based in the Enga.

Wenge is insisting that he is still the bishop and has told the media about his intention to mount a legal challenge against the election of Rev Jack Urame as the new ELC-PNG bishop.

Wenge was ousted in a fair election process duly recognised by the ELC-PNG constitution during the recent synod in Finschafen.

Urame was duly elected as the new bishop and it is better for Wenge to work with him to spread the Gospel, improve church facilities, increase community service and revive its businesses.

The former bishop should cooperate with the new bishop and contribute his experience and prayers to revive the church and its businesses after the recent turmoil.

That is what Wenge should do if he is serious about reviving the church.

He will prove nothing by taking Urame’s election to court but only cause more damage to the ELC-PNG.

The Lutheran faithful around the country do not want to see top clergy fighting over the church’s top post.

What they expect and hope is to see the church effectively running its businesses, improving its facilities and most importantly, spreading of the Word of God.

Therefore, Wenge and Urame must cooperate and work to deliver this to the church followers.
