Former commissioner described as a dedicated man

LATE former police commissioner Joseph Kupo is one of the four police commissioners in the history of his batch of 1974, says former police commissioner Gari Baki.
“Kupo was one of the 14 that passed out together from the joint cadet and four of us have become police commissioners,” he said.
“The late Kupo, late Sam Inguba, Peter Aigilo and I were four from the 14 of our batch who become commissioners and that is history in itself as no other batches passing out from the police college had produced more than one commissioner.”
Baki made this tribute during the funeral of late Kupo at St. Joseph Parish in Port Moresby last Thursday.
Baki said at one point of primary school, late Inguba and late Kupo were class mates at Kerowagi, Chimbu, and that was where their friendship started.
“Kupo is a strict man with discipline that does not muck around easily”.
Papua New Guinea Defence Force retired Major-General Jerry Singirok said the late Kupo was his senior back in 1972 at Sogeri National High School.
“That was where we started our friendship and later joined them at the Joint Services,” he said.
“We became close at a professional level but close brothers at a personal level”.
“He was very supportive to me during the Sandline crisis with his ideas.”
Former police commissioner Geoffrey Vaki said Kupo was a disciplined man who was dedicated to his work and his family.
