PAPUA New Guinea Kapuls skipper and Madang FC recruit Michael Foster is ready to help Madang in their OFC Champions league pool C campaign in New Zealand from Feb 24 to March 4.
Apart from Madang veteran Neil Hans and vice-captain Samuel Kini, the 32-year-old is seen as a major boost to the side as he leads by example using his experience as an international.
Foster told The National that his inclusion in the side had helped Madang in many ways which resulted in three wins so far.
“It’s good that I’ve come here to help out the boys here, not only for the NSL but for our preparations for the OFC Champions League as well,” Foster said.
“Since I arrived in Madang, I have been given a really good welcome.
“I am enjoying my football here because everyone is helpful and respectful to me and I have gelled well with the guys.
“Most of the boys are not new, I have played together with some of them in the NSL for other clubs before.”
Foster also described the retention of Madang FC coach Mauri Wasi as a bonus for the franchise.
“So far coach Mauri Wasi has been working with us collectively as a team and the players have responded very well to him,” Foster said.
“The signs are good as we take part in the NSL and look forward to the Champions League in New Zealand.”
Foster commended his side for bouncing back to the winners circle after their first defeat to Toti City FC in round three.
“The game against Toti City FC was challenging for us,” he said.
“It was a quality match and it all came back to the team that had determination on game day and Toti City FC responded well, we didn’t.”
Madang FC made up for their 7-2 capitulation to City last week with a 6-1 flogging of Buang FC last Saturday with Foster saying the side were determined to remain in the competition’s top two over the course of the season.
Meanwhile, Toti City FC and Madang FC will be taking part in the OFC Champions League starting Feb 24 to March 4.
