THE Ok Tedi Development Foundation (OTDF) recently facilitated the donation of more than K45,000 worth of food supplies to 10 border villages in Western.
It was made through the Covid-19 taskforce coordination committee in the province.
The villages – Kungim, Ambaga, Putmambin, Kungembit, Birimkamba, Dome, Ieran, Bongubun, Atkamba and Kawok – have been in lockdown since the reporting of three Covid-19 cases there last month.
The donation was made on behalf of the Waitri Trust, one of the eight trusts under the Ok Tedi Community Mine Continuation Agreement (CMCA).
The items included rice, canned fish, oil, salt, soap and matches.
The supplies were handed over to provincial administrator Robert Kaiyun last week.
OTDF chief executive Havini Vira said they were happy to facilitate the donation on behalf of the Waitri Trust.
Meanwhile, a similar delivery of food supplies worth K43,000 was donated to the villages situated behind the Ok Tedi mine by the community leaders of the six landowner mine villages.
