THANKS to a Sir Brian Bell Foundation K150,000 sponsorship, 100 women and girls will access training on entrepreneurial skills, vocational and life skills this year.
This was announced by the business and professional women’s (BPW) club president Jessinta Wagambie during the International Women’s day (IWD) breakfast in Port Moresby yesterday.
“This donation will go towards sponsoring women and girls to undergo entrepreneurial skills training and vocational and life skills training,” she said.
“Fifty of the scholarships will be for entrepreneurial skills training and 50 for vocational and life skills training.”
Wagambie said women’s club played a significant role in empowering women and girls to access education over the years.
Most of the funds to support the club’s scholarship programme is generated from the IWD breakfast.
“Since the commencement of this International Women’s Day breakfast in 2009, the BPW (club) has provided more than K1.9 million to support 2,600 women and girls through the scholarship programme,” Wagambie said.
Last year, the club awarded scholarships to women and girls in 35 institutions totalling K270,000. In partnership with the small medium enterprise corporation, it introduced an entrepreneurial skills training in 2017 to encourage and empower women to run their own businesses.
Wagambie welcomed the support from the Sir Brian Bell Foundation and other sponsors which would continue to provide entrepreneurial skills training.
Brian Bell Ltd group chairman Ian Clough told The National that the Sir Brian Bell Foundation had been partnering with the women’s club for a couple of years.
This year, they want to support the club with 100 scholarships for the development of women and girls to have access to education.
