OIL Search Foundation (OSF) says it is maintaining immunisation services in Gulf during the Covid-19 pandemic.
OSF, in a statement, said it was working in partnership with the Gulf health authority (GPHA), World Health Organisation (WHO) and Unicef to ensure immunisation services and other essential activities such as community health outreach clinics were not disrupted during the Covid-19 pandamic.
It said the goal of increasing immunisation was supported by many donor partners, including the Australian and New Zealand governments and the global vaccine alliance.
“Immunisation is a core health service that must be prioritised for the prevention of communicable diseases and safeguarded for continuity of cover,” executive director, Stephanie Copus-Campbell said.
“Children might die of a measles outbreak – we only must remember the tragedy of the very recent Samoan measles outbreak where over 80 children tragically lost their lives. OSF staff are now in Kerema and Kikori districts to support the Gulf PHA district health managers to maintain routine immunisation.
