PREPARATIONS are underway by PNG Kidney Foundation (PNGKF) for commemoration of World Kidney Day this month, an official says.
PNGKF chief operating officer, Khalik Bin Unton, said it was a struggle for them to raise awareness on kidney diseases, especially end stage kidney failure, a lifestyle disease that was on the rise in PNG.
He said they were interviewing patients and the public for story-sharing in preparation for the main event that would be held at Vision Mega Mall on March 14.
“We hope the day’s programme will teach more people about what happens to their kidneys when they are not careful with what they eat and drink,” he said.
“AkzoNobel Ltd supported foundation with a mural painting at the dialysis centre purposely to brighten up environment and make patients feel relaxed when coming for treatment.”
He thanked the company and said it was good to see business houses coming forward and supporting non-government organisations.
