Founders’ legacy must remain, says Ivaroa

THE legacy of three deceased founders of Gulf Isapea should not be affected by the bid to enter a second team in the 2018 PNG National Rugby League Digicel Cup, Isapea chairman Jacob Ivaroa says.
Ivaroa was referring to club founders the late Celcius Kose, Jack Metta and Peter Loko, who remained members of the club until their passing.
“We should be serious and not replace Isapea with a new team but continue with the legacy of these legends and administrators,” he said. I have no difference with the new franchise — Gulf Isou — but let’s think twice and get our facts right. Isapea remains the only provincial team to maintain the legacy of those who have contributed effectively.
“The fact here is that Isapea has a foundation and it’s established with feeder clubs and leagues and it has remained competitive.
“We cannot start all over again as we want to avoid the wooden spooners tag. We have competitive players still interested to play,” he saidd.
Ivaroa said 95 per cent of the current Isapea players did not play in the inter-city this season as they were faithful and loyal to the club that exposed and developed them to this level.
Ivaroa said Isapea players were ready to go but were only awaiting the decision of the bid application by PNGNRL.
